The Cedar Collection

Cedar weaving is an ancient art form of the Indigenous peoples of the Northwest Coast BC that has survived colonialism.  The cedar tree is known as the tree of life because the entire tree was and still is fully utilized til this day! We hold the cedar tree in high regard as it continues to provide and sustain us with a viable lifestyle in a way that our ancestors once lived. There are many different uses for the cedar tree such as weaving the inner bark into hats, baskets, mats and robes while the logs were used for building and carving.  The wefts were also utilized as medicine and is considered one of the four sacred medicines (cedar, sage, tobacco, and sweetgrass).
Today, as a Gitxsan women, Jaimie (she/her) weaves together the past with the future to create a unique wearable art that combines history with contemporary fashion!

*All the cedar bark is harvested sustainably and ethically, by Jaimie. Proper protocols are followed, meaning all cedar bark is harvested on her own traditional territory of the Laxskiik (eagle) clan of Gitwangax, Wilp Sakhumhiigook*
